Pathfinders, Adventurers and Eager Beavers (PAEB) at Leicester Central SDA Church

 Fun.  Adventure.  Education.

 Pathfinder Team: Pauline Matturi (Director) and Beverly Lake (Adventurers and Eager Beavers Director)

These are some of the features of the Pathfinder, Adventurer and Eager Beaver Clubs. Leicester Central SDA Church is fortunate to have all three clubs in one church.

Eager Beavers

Eager Beavers is open for children aged 4 – 5 years old. This programme is different from Adventurers and Pathfinders. It involves a parent-child partnership while the Adventurer and especially the Pathfinder programmes are club organizations. Our Eager Beaver programmes are short and pacy, where the children learn requirements, play games, do crafts, earn chips and become involved in activities.

Adventurers Club

Adventurers Club is the place for active and curious young children aged 6 – 9. Through the Adventurer Programme, the church, home, and school can work
together with the parent to develop a mature, happy child. Adventurers offers an instructional curriculum from within the Seventh-day Adventist philosophy, as well fun and creative ways for children

  • to experience the joy and satisfaction of doing things well;
  • to express their love for Jesus in a natural way;
  • to learn how to get along with others;
  • to discover their God-given abilities and to know how to use them to benefit self and serve others,
  • to improve their understanding of what makes families strong

Pathfinders Club

Pathfinders Club invites young people aged 10 – 16 to join. Pathfinders are a worldwide organisation of young people sponsored by the Seventh-day Adventist Church, though young people of any religious persuasion, or none at all, are welcome and encouraged to join. Our Pathfinders Club offers a wide range of activities including:

  • Age appropriate leadership training
  • Camping skills
  • Activities promoting community pride and involvement
  • Training in a variety of recreational, artistic, nature, conservation, vocational, and outreach areas, with awards (Pathfinder Honours) given for successful
    completion of interactive training modules.

When club takes place

Saturday afternoons between 4.00 p.m. and 5.30 p.m. in the basement of Leicester Central SDA Church. Extra events like club trips, camps, swimming, community work and the like are regularly scheduled into the PAEB year.

 At Leicester Central the PAEB year runs from September to July each year.  The PAEB year culminates in a grand Investiture Day where the children and young people ‘graduate’ from their classes and receive all the honours, awards and chips that mark their achievement and attainment.

Who delivers the programmes?

The PAEB programmes are delivered by a loyal group of Counsellors.  Senior counsellors are trained in youth leadership and are experienced as Pathfinders and Master Guides in their own right.  Junior counsellors support classes as they learn the art of training and leading young people.  Club leaders and staff are CRB checked and are knowledgeable about safeguarding children.

How much is PAEB membership?

In 2011 it cost £10 to register a child in a club. This covers membership and insurance by the club.  There are various fees for participation in club trips or camps etc.

Quotes from children

“Pathfinders is fun.  It’s a great way to learn about church.  It’s a place where you can meet and make friends and do fun things together.” 11 year old Pathfinder
